Clasijazz Rural: Escenario Hábitat Natura
What is Clasijazz Rural?
Clasijazz Rural is a working line launched in 2022 within the Clasijazz project. In this new chapter, culture is understood as inseparable from nature and habitat, leading to an approach that connects art, territory, and ways of living. The legacy of Clasijazz expands from urban to rural contexts, with all that this shift entails.
What is Escenario Hábitat Natura?
It is the cultural program of Clasijazz Rural, created from and for the rural areas of Almería, built on three pillars: nature, habitat, and performing arts. It develops a methodology to create a cultural ecosystem where traditional and contemporary knowledge shape diverse and hybrid realities. The integration of these three pillars in a single program, carried out through various projects and activities, fosters interdisciplinary dialogue and a more holistic approach to how rural cultural identity is conceived and constructed.
Why was Clasijazz Rural and its cultural program created?
It was created as a response to three key issues: first, a limited vision of culture, focused on specific and disconnected disciplines, and ignoring the traditional knowledge rooted in rural areas. Second, the concentration of cultural activity in urban centers. And third, the lack of sustainable models—economic, social, and environmental—that allow cultural projects to endure over time, care for their surroundings, and foster collaborative networks.
What are the pillars of the cultural program?
All the activities of our cultural program are based on three pillars that serve as working areas. These pillars interact through hybrid approaches, synergies, or mutual support, depending on the project or activity:
- Performing Arts: Music, dance, theatre, and performance proposals that aim to foster culture and creativity in a natural and community-based setting, using artistic entertainment as a glue for community building and a form of celebration.
- Nature: Activities related to landscape, biodiversity, agroecology, and natural resources. They promote a resilient and mindful relationship with the environment, using educational and observational approaches to encourage its understanding and appreciation.
- Habitat: A focus on vernacular construction culture, natural materials, local typologies, and appropriate technologies. These activities promote both tangible and intangible cultural aspects of habitat in a globalized context, encouraging community participation and engagement with the built environment.
What activities are included?
Escenario Hábitat Natura includes a wide range of activities such as workshops, talks, screenings, debates, community work sessions, educational walks, concerts, performances, residencies, exhibitions, and more—each framed within the three core areas and the diverse topics they encompass.

Clasijazz Rural Venues
El Molino in Terque, inaugurated in 2022, is the current main active venue of Clasijazz Rural. This former building was collectively restored to serve as a meeting space for experimentation, training, and shared living among artists, researchers, local communities, and cultural agents. It is designed as a cohabitation space where production, education, research, and artistic creation take place. It features accommodation, a work/presentation room, outdoor working areas, performance spaces, a vegetable garden, a garden, a food truck, and parking.
El Molino hosts the activities of the Escenario Hábitat Natura cultural program while also offering several services, such as residency, retreats, and workspaces for artists, creators, and researchers.
